Experienced and new Advance Steel Users, are aware of the raw power and intuition of Advance Steel's extensive Intelligent Connection Vault. In the past, unique Connection types that were unavailable in the Intelligent Connection Vault, had to be modeled manually. Remodeling these manual connection types could be a very time consuming and tedious task.
Graitec have made Modeling that much faster, by making the need to manually repeat modelling of these unique Connections, obsolete. The new Custom Connection feature, added to Advance Steel 2013, allows Users to save their User Defined Connections to a new Custom Connection Vault. This User Defined Connection can then be reused on similar connection scenarios automatically. Automated Macros will even update when used on Connection Points with different Section sizes.

How to Add Example Pictures to the Quick Documents Menu
In Advance Steel, the Quick Documents menu is an easy way to identify and distinguish Drawing Styles and Material List (BOM) Templates. Coupled with descriptions, the Advance Steel, Quick Documents menu previews a Drawing Style and BOM Template when selected, giving the User a clear indication of what the Details will look like, once generated.
The Quick Documents menu can be customized to filter only the Drawing Styles, Drawing Processes and BOM Templates that the User requires. Custom Example or Preview Pictures can also be assigned to User Drawing Styles and BOM Templates in the Quick Documents menu.

B31 improvements in modeling and evaluation of branch connections
The
SIFs and flexibility factors in use today were developed over 60 years ago.
ASME commissioned a project (ST-LLC 07-02) to review, update and
harmonize these values across all B31 piping codes. One of the more
interesting changes is the treatment of pipe intersections where a value for
tee flexibility is greater than the current 1.0. Taking credit for this
tee flexibility may reduce calculated expansion stresses and equipment loads.
This class will review the study results and outline the tee model that
will, eventually, be included in the B31 codes

Theory, Principles and Effects of creep as it Pertains to Pressure Vessel

understand the effects of operating stress on pressure vessel components.
Pressure vessel codes provide allowable stresses that must not be exceeded,
with safety factor based on yield of no more the two thirds x yield.
These stresses are kept well below the yield point to maintain a margin of safety.
At modest temperatures, it can be expected that (ignoring the effects of
corrosion) operating pressures can be sustained for many years
without fear of failure. There are many vessels-still in service-that are
over 80 years old. This is because the properties of the metal remain
constant over time. However…..
Modern pressure vessel design calls for higher operating temperatures. At these higher temperatures the metal over time can suffer from stretching, ultimately resulting in failure if not understood. This is called creep. The problem is that keeping the stresses below the yield point is not sufficient. Creep can take place well below the yield point.

Ray
joined Intergraph CADWorx and Analysis Solutions group in 2003. Ray provides
technical support in the PV Elite support and maintenance department. His
duties include training in the use of PV Elite software both in the United
States and abroad.
Dave Diehl - Technical Support Intergraph Corp
David
Diehl graduated with a BSME from Lehigh University, Pennsylvania, USA in 1976.
Upon graduation he took a post as a Dynaflex technical support representative
for Auton Computing in New York City. After four years David relocated to
Houston, Texas providing mainframe-based piping system analysis services. In 1986, he took a position at Intergraph
CADWorx & Analysis Solutions (COADE, Inc.) introducing and selling CAESAR
II, the worlds first PC-based pipe stress analysis package. While at ICAS Dave earned his Professional
Engineering license and currently is the product manager for CAESAR II, is the
lead instructor for CAESAR II, and manages all training for ICAS. For the last ten years Dave has participated
in the B31.3 Section Committee and currently chairs the Design Task Group
there. He also serves as a Director of
SPED – the Society of Piping Engineers and Designers.
Sonia Delgadillo - Senior CADWorx Applications Specialist
Sonia
Delgadillo is the Senior CADWorx Applications Specialist for the CADWorx Plant
Design Suite, including CADWorx Plant and P&ID Professional, CADWorx Design
Review and CADWorx fieldPipe. Sonia joined the Intergraph CADWorx and Analysis
Solutions group in January 2009, and is responsible for product presentations,
training and dealer and end-user support. She has five years experience
teaching designers, engineers, owner operators and EPC firms develop AND
implement best practices to improve their effectiveness.
Michael Smith – CADWorx Business Development
Throughout his 30 year career in the plant design and AEC industry
Michael Smith has participated in projects ranging from process plants to
mixed-used commercial buildings and transportation. His work experience
includes consulting engineering, MEP design, construction, project management
and public works. Michael has also had Autodesk Partner Channel experience in CAD
and BIM management, Navisworks MEP coordination, plus AutoCAD and Revit MEP
technical support. Michael was also principal of his own building information
modeling (BIM) consulting company – BIMworks, Inc. Before Joining Intergraph he
completed a successful term at Harder Mechanical, Oregon, USA as director of
virtual design and construction.

for this new release will start to ship from February 2013. Users current with

website.

CADWorx 2013 R2 Release
Intergraph have recently released the new build of CADWorx, called CADWorx 2013 R2. This build of CADWorx includes all new Piping Rules, Specification Editor Enhancements, Legacy Model Conversation Commands and and a few other new and well sought after features.

- Legacy (older version) CADWorx Plant models can now be imported and edited in CADWorx Plant 2013, using the "CONVERTCADWORXLEGACYDWGS" command.
- Legacy components can be easily located and reviewed using the "REVIEWLEGACYCOMPONENTS" command.
- The option of Automatic Couplings can be set in the Piping Rules menu. This will automatically add couplings between piping components while using routing.
- With the "Apply Line Number Rule", Line Numbers can automatically be assigned, when inserting components to a pipeline. This option can be set in the Piping Rules menu.
- Item Data can now be selectively updated when using the Change Size, Change Spec, or Automatic Update of Data commands. This option is controlled by the "Apply Change Data Rule" in the Piping Rules menu.
- The CADWorx 2013 Specification Editor has been updated with new Dimensional Example Images allowing for easy identification of correct input fields.
